Sound Edge Application Software
The MIDI Soft Keyboard
The MIDI soft keyboard simulates a MIDI keyboard controller. As with an ordinary MIDI keyboard,
you need to set the MIDI send channels before using the MIDI soft keyboard. The MIDI soft
keyboard is convenient because it enables you to easily play the keyboard in order to audition
sounds (for example, when editing wave data) without connecting an external MIDI keyboard.
£You can use the MIDI soft keyboard to play the internal generators or wave data in accordance with the MIDI
parameter settings, regardless of the wave editing window or the Mapping window.
1. Click the [Keyboard] menu. The MIDI soft keyboard appears.
2. Press (without releasing) the mouse button on the keyboard. You can hear the wave data
being edited or a synthesizer (AWM or FM) sound.
When you click on the MIDI soft keyboard while it is active, the note name of the
corresponding pitch is displayed in the Note box in the status bar.
£The items set in the [MIDI] menu for the MIDI channels, velocity, transpose and program change numbers
take effect.
£You can choose the tone generator (RAM, AWM, or FM) that is to produce the sound or change the
volume balance between RAM/AWM and FM in the OPL4 Drive Panel. For more information on the OPL4 Drive
Panel, see pages 14 and 42.
Setting MIDI Parameters
When you use the MIDI soft keyboard, you need to set MIDI parameters, such as the MIDI
channel or the velocity, as you would when using a normal external MIDI keyboard.
You can set the parameters by the following procedure. While the MIDI Soft Keyboard window
is active, click [Instrument] from the [MIDI] menu. Choose the program change number that
you want to sound (instrument voice and wave data). Also use [Parameters] to set values,
such as for the MIDI send channel and the velocity. For details, see page 45.
