Power
is
transmittedfromthecrankshaft
through the clutchandtwotransmission shafts
to
a
thirdshaft, called the middle driven
gear.
A s
plineddrivecamfitsinsidethemiddle
drivengearandtransmitspowertothedriven
cam,which
is
located
on
the middle gear
shaft. The driveanddrivencamsact
as
a
shockdamperinthedriveline.Thesecams
remainin
the
sameposition
relative
toeach
other;that
is,
they do not
"
ratchet
"
orslip
overwhen under heavy load. Themiddle
gear
casecontainstwogearedshafts;thedrive
pinion(shaftandgear)andthedrivenpinion
(gear).
A
flangeridesonthedrivenpinion
spline and
is
boltedtotheballjoint.Theball
jointacts
like
theuniversaljointsinanauto
-
mobiledrive shaft. The balljoint
is
permanent
-
lylubricatedandrarelyrequires replacement.
Theswingarm
(reararm)serves
as
both
a
suspensioncomponentand
a
housingfor the
driveshaft.Power
is
transmitted through the
balljointtothedriveshaft,andtothe splined
gearcouplinginthefinalgearcase.
In
the
Final
Gear Case,
thepower
is
transmittedto
the Drive Pinion,throughtheRingGear,and
finallytotherearwheel.
