A.WheelInspection
NOTE: Makesurethewheel
is
balancedeverytime
thetire
is
replaced.
(Refer
toFront Wheel
Inspection.)
Wheelsshouldbeinspectedfrequently.Wheelrun
-
out
andbalancing
is
discussedinChapter5-1.Inaddition,
wheelsmust be carefullyinspectedforsmallcracks,
bendsorwarpage.Anywheeldamagedor beyond
specifiedlimitsshould be replaced.Donotattempt
tostraiqhten
a
bentwheel. A.RemovalandDisassembly

B.Tire,TubeRemoval
1.Remove valve cap,valvecoreand valve stem
lock
nut.
2. When
all
air
is
out of tube,separatetirebead
fromrim(bothsides)bysteppingon
tire
with
yourfoot.
3.
Use
two (2)wide,flat
tire
ironswithrounded
edgestoworkthetire bead over
the
edgeof
therim,starting180°oppositethetubestem.
Be
carefulnottopinch the tubeasyoudo
this.
4. Afteryouhaveworkedonesideofthetire
completelyofftherim, slip the tube out.
Be
verycarefulnottodamagethestemwhile
pushing
it
backoutoftherimhole.
NOTE: Ifyou
are
changingthe
tire
itself,
thenfinishtheremovalbyworkingthe second
bead
offthe rim.
1.Disconnectspeedometer cable. Disconnect
brakecalipersandremovefrontwheel.Place
woodenwedgeorother object intocaliper
assembliestokeepbrakepadsfromfalling
out.
Removefrontfender.
2.Loosenpinchboltsonsteeringstemand
crownandremovefork.
3. Removeforktubecaps,spring clips, spring
stopperseats,andoildrainscrews.Drainfork
oil.
4.
RemoveAllenboltfrom bottom of fork
assembly. Pull innertubeoutofoutertube.
C. Installation
Reinstallthetireandtubebyreversingthe disassembly
procedure.Afterthetubehasbeeninstalled,but
beforethetirehasbeencompletelyslipped
onto
the
rim,put
a
smallamountof
air
intothetube.This
re
-
movesanycreasesthatmightexist.Releasethe
air
andcontinuewithreassembly.Afterthetirehasbeen
completelyslippedontotherim,make
sure the
stem
comesoutofthe hole intherim
at
a
rightangleto
the rim. Finally, inflatethe tire.
5.Toremovefork
seal,
pulloffdustcover.
Removespringclipoveroilseal.
Pry
out oil
seal,beingcareful
to
notdamagetheforktube.
