charts. Cable maintenance
is
primarilyconcerned
withpreventingdeterioration through rustand weath
-
eringandprovidingproperlubricationtoallowthe
cabletomovefreelywithin
its
housing. Cable removal
is
straightforward
and
uncomplicated.Removalwill
notbediscussedwithinthissection.
For details of cable routing, seethe table routing
diagramsatthe end of the manual. Improperly
routed,assembledoradjustedcablesmay make
thevehicleunsafeforoperation.

Checkfinaldrivegear
lash
asfollows:
a.
Removefinaldrivegearcase.
Removethecable.
b.Placegearcase
in
a
vise
or
othersupport.
c.Removeonenutfrom
a
finaldrivecasestud
bolt.Placegearholder(specialtool)overring
gearsurfaceandstudbolt.
gear.Tightenholdertostudbolt with nut.
Checkfor
free
movementofcablewithin
its
housing.
If
movement
is
obstructed,checkfor
fraying or kinkingofcablestrands.Ifdamage
is
evident, cableassembly.
To
lubricatecable,holdinverticalposition.
lubricanttouppermost end ofcable.

Leave
in
verticalpositionuntillubricant
appears
at
bottom.Allowexcesstodrainand
reinstall.
NOTE: Choiceoflubricantdependsupon
conditionsandpreferences. However, asemi
-
dryingchain and cablelubricantwillprobably
performadequately under most conditions.
B.ThrottleMaintenance
1.
RemovePhillipsheadscrewsfromthrottle
housingassemblyandseparatetwohalves
of
housing.
2.
Disconnect cable end fromthrottlegrip
assemblyandremovegripassembly.
3.
Wash
all
parts
inmildsolvent and checkcon
-
tactsurfacesforburrsorotherdamage. (Also
cleanand inspect righthand end ofhandlebar.)
4. Lubricatecontactsurfaceswithlightcoatof
lithiumsoapbase
grease
andreassemble.
NOTE: Tightenhousingscrewsevenlyto
maintain
an
evengapbetweenthetwohalves.
5.
Checkforsmooththrottleoperationandquick
springreturnwhenreleasedand make certain
thathousing does notrotateonhandlebar.
