TROUBLESHOOTING LIGHTING SYSTEM INSPECTION

1. Headlight, headlight indicator or meter light do not work.

I THE HEADLIGHT, HEADLIGHT INDICATOR, TAlL LIGHT OR METER I

LIGHT DO NOT WORK I 1.Bulb and socket I NO CONTINUITY

NOTE: I " Check the bulb and socket for continuity.

Remove the following parts before proceeding with the troubleshooting:

• Mole and footrest board J_

• Handlebar covers _#- CONTINUITY I Replace bulb or socket. I

For accurate troubleshooting use the following special tools:

Headlight:

1. "HI/LO" switch I NO CONTINUITY • "LO":

Pocket tester (+) lead _ Green 0

I Refer to "SWITCH INSPECTION". Pocket tester (-) lead _ Black (_) _

• "HI":

,_y CONTINUITY I Replace left handlebar switch. I • HeadlightP°cketP°ckettester (+) lead _ Yellow(_)testerindicator(') lead:_ Black (_) _(_ _':__.

2. Lighting coil resistance Pocket tester (+) lead -* Yellow (_)

• Disconnect the lighting coil coupler from the Pocket tester (-) lead _ Black (_ __

wirems --r

Connect the pocket tester (_ x 1) to the Pocket tester (+) lead _ Blue (_)

lighting coil. R Pocket tester (-) lead -=, Black (_)

Check the lighting coil resistance • Start the engine, _ _,,

Tester (+) lead _ Yellow I Red (D "_'_ • Switch from "HI" to "LO" and back.

Tester (-) lead _ Ground (_) • Check the voltage (12V) between the head-

light coupler leads.

Lighting coil resistance:

0.32 ~ 0.48_ ( at 20°C (68°F) OUT OF SPECIFICATION "_ SPECIFICATIoNMEETS,IWidng circuit between C.D.I magneto and I

CORRECT I The circuit is good. I

I Replace lighting coil. I

4. Connections I

• Check allconnections inthe lighting system. POOR CONNECTIONS

Refer to "CIRCUIT DIAGRAM".

system.
