Sine, Tri, Saw and Pulse Mix
There are four Mixed configurations that add a second oscillator with a
waveform and a harmonic partial relationship to oscillator 1.
The Mixed configurations are
presented with the waveform
and a numerical value of a
harmonic partial in the
Oscillator Configuration display.
Here are a few examples:
SA.
Sub (1 octave down).
SA.1
Nominal = Oscillator 1
SA.2
1 octave up.
SA.3
3:rd harmonic.
SA.4
2 octaves up.
SA.5
5:th harmonic.
SA.6
6:th harmonic.
SA.7
7:th harmonic.
SA.8
3 octaves up.
M The waveform of oscillator 1 is the one specified with the Wave-
form Dial.
Modulation Configurations
FM (Frequency Modulation)
This is a classic 2 operator FM synthesis
configuration where oscillator 1 is the carrier
and oscillator 2 is the modulator. The frequency
of oscillator 2 is set by the Osc Config dial, with
a frequency range of -12 to +48 semitones,
relative to oscillator 1.
FM synthesis is a powerful tool for
generating a very complex spectra
from a simple waveform. FM synthe-
sis can create both harmonic and
inharmonic sounds depending on
the frequency relation between the
modulator and the carrier. The most
famous FM synthesizer is the DX7
from the mid 1980's.
AM (Amplitude Modulation)
Oscillator 1 will be amplitude modulated by a
sine wave from oscillator 2. Osc Control sets
the frequency of oscillator 2.
Amp Envelope
The Amp envelope is a polyphonic ADR/ASR
envelope, used to control how the sound amplitude
or level changes over time. By modulating the
amplifier with an envelope, the sound can be given
its basic “shape”. In fact, the “volume shape” is one
of the most important factors in how we identify the
sound. By setting up a proper amplifier envelope you
can make a sound “soft”, “hard”, “plucked” “static”
etc.
Attack
Attack is the time it will take for the envelope to go from zero to the
maximum amplitude as soon as a key have been pressed. Range: 0.5
ms to 45 s.
Decay
Decay is the
time it takes for
the envelope to
drop down to
zero after the at-
tack phase has
been completed.
When Decay
is turned fully
clockwise, it will
not drop down at all, but remain at the full sustain level. Range: 0.5
ms to 45 s, Sustain
Release
The Release phase of the envelope begins after you have released the
key. This setting determines how long it should take for the envelope
to drop to 0 after the key is released. The release phase may start
anywhere during the envelope’s other phases. It will begin as soon as a
key is released. Range: 3.0 ms to 45 s.
Env Vel
Press Shift and turn the Release knob to enable Envelope Velocity. This
makes the amplitude velocity sensitive.
